INTERACTIVE FOCUSING WORKSHOPS FOR THERAPISTS AND COUNSELORS

For anyone with an existing therapy or counseling practice

Mary McGuire and Janet Klein are offering training to therapists and counselors in how to use Interactive Focusing Therapy in your current practice. Interactive Focusing Therapy is currently being practiced with impressive results. It will deepen your existing practice, and it is also an excellent short-term therapy model.

It brings the benefits of Focusing-based work to therapy. In his research about what heals in therapy, Eugene Gendlin, Ph.D., professor of psychology and philosophy at the University of Chicago, discovered that clients healed and grew when they talked from their experience rather than about it. He developed Focusing to help clients learn how to talk from their experience . . . and it was found to be a profoundly helpful practice. We can help you help your clients talk from their experience.

Curriculum

First Weekend Workshop in Interactive Focusing Therapy (This can be taken alone or in conjunction with supervision and/or the second weekend workshop):
Mary and Janet teach the basics of Interactive Focusing Therapy . . . how to use it with individuals, couples, families and groups. They will demonstrate the function of the "coach" therapist. There will be a three-hour pre-workshop available for those not already familiar with the Interactive Focusing Process.

Individual Sessions (This can be taken with or without the weekend workshops):
Mary will offer personal phone sessions as well as supervision. For the supervision, you can choose cases from your existing client base. Interactive Focusing Therapy supervision is about helping you, the therapist, find your own "right" way in therapy.

Second Weekend Workshop (Prerequisite: First Weekend Workshop):
We will review the basics of Interactive Focusing Therapy with individuals, couples, families and groups. We will help you hone the skills you have developed during the first weekend workshop and the time you have spent practicing Interactive Focusing Therapy with your clients and/or during the intervening weeks of therapy supervision.

New Book

Interactive Focusing Therapy: Healing Relationships is a just completed book by Janet Klein Psy.D. about using Interactive Focusing in therapy, written for both the therapist and the client. It presents the essentials of using this process with individuals, couples, families and groups. Each chapter starts with a sample dialogue after which teaching points are presented. Therapists will appreciate the clarity and clients will be able to easily follow along. The book also contains an explanation of how to form a healing relationship with your client using Interactive Focusing and how you would use it in therapy supervision. It is clear and comprehensive. Over 140 pages including contributions by other therapists. You receive a complimentary copy when you register for the first weekend training.
